Colonel Nick Channer marched to raise funds for the Museum Appeal while commanding the British Military Contingent at this year’s Nijmegen Marches.
The contingent was nearly 700 strong, with its membership drawn from all 3 services, adult and cadet. The marchers cover 40 kms each day for 4 days.
Colonel Channer’s duties only allowed him to march for one day – but he raised £600!
45,000 people, including 5,000 military personnel from 34 nations, pounded the pavements in Nijmegen, Netherlands, to participate in this walking event, one of the largest in the world.
The event was set up more than a century ago to promote sport and exercise.
Those taking part covered 100 miles in four days during which time their leadership, camaraderie, teamwork and endurance were all put to the test.
The event was covered by Forces TV and their report can be viewed below.
